Pivot Cycles Switchblade
The Switchblade has been redesigned for greater adaptability and versatility. Better descending performance, improved traction and handling on climbs, more capable geometry and improved suspension make it a formidable all-round MTB, as impressive in the bike park as it is on the trail.
The latest design retains the all-mountain capabilities that have traditionally made the Switchblade a solid choice for those who enjoy all-mountain riding and mixes in shades of the Firebird’s aggressive style and high speed composure.
Better handling and climbing prowess are delivered by modern geometry, including a slacker head angle, a steeper seat angle, an increased reach and a longer wheel base, which results in better stability and improved rider confidence.
This geometry may be further adjusted by Pivot’s flip-chip, which enables riders to tune it to match their preferred terrain, opting for a greater or lesser degree of stability or agility. They can also optimise the frame for 29″ wheels, 27.5″ wheels or a mullet setup.
Pivot has improved its proprietary dw-linkTM suspension, which still delivers the pedalling response and agility that the Switchblade is renowned for, but with improved handling and comfort over big terrain.
This elevation has been achieved by utilising a slightly longer, lower link. As previously, there is 142mm of rear travel and 160mm of front travel, but the updated Switchblade offers better small bump compliance, more tractability and improved bottom out resistance.
The rear suspension now includes a vertical shock layout, which has enabled Pivot to make the frame stiffer, lighter and more compact. This layout has created room for a full-sized water bottle, plus mounts on the top and down tubes for the Pivot Dock Tool System, which enables riders to keep their essential tools close to hand at all times.
Finally, Pivot has ensured that the Switchblade will give consistent performance, regardless of the frame size, by using custom tuned carbon layup and size-specific chainstays to achieve uniform qualities and responsiveness. Every frame further undergoes independent strength and weight analysis, ensuring every Switchblade will deliver the same ride characteristics.
